The human resource development (HRD) ministry recently released its first annual ranking of best higher education institutions in the country. Titled, ‘India Ranking Report 2016’, the college rankings are divided across categories including architecture, management, pharmacy and engineering.

The rankings are based on five broad generic parameters: teaching, learning and resources; research, consulting and collaborative performance; graduation outcome; outreach and inclusivity; and perception.

At No. 2 on the list is Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. Established in the year 1958, the institute gets a weightage of 87.67.

The No. 3 position goes to Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. The premier engineering college in West Bengal gets a weightage of 83.91. The institute was established in the year 1951.
