Bloomberg reports Uber Eats’ AI-powered chatbot would help customers with recommendations, assisting them in placing their food orders quickly. Developer Steve Moser discovered the details of the chatbot within the app’s code.
Although there has been no official announcement, the code snippet gives a glimpse into how this chatbot might work. The chatbot should help customers find suitable dishes at restaurants and more. “AI assistant was designed to help you find relevant restaurant dishes and more,” will read the prompt when the chatbot is awakened, according to the code snippet discovered.
Earlier this month, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi told Bloomberg News that the ride hailing-cum food ordering giant is working on embedding AI within its offerings. “We’re working on it right now,” Khosrowshahi said.
Khosrowshahi notes that artificial intelligence is not new to Uber. The company has been using machine learning and artificial intelligence for years within its app. “We have been working with machine learning, artificial intelligence systems for years and years,” he said. “Every time you get matched up with a car or a courier, there are algorithms making that happen, from the time of day, distance, all of that is driven by machine learning.”

Another Uber Eats competitor, Instacart, which operates grocery delivery and pickup services across the US, introduced the “Ask Instacart” search tool. The tool, powered by OpenAI’s ChatGPT, offers personalised recommendations to save customers time and answer shopping questions.
