A dog was strangled to death after the doors of a lift closed on its leash in Hong Kong. The canine, one of three taken for a walk by a 46-year-old domestic helper in Kennedy Town, was strangled as it attempted to dart out of the elevator just moments before the doors closed, as per a report by the South China Morning Post.
This marks the second such incident in the city in the last three months.
The unfortunate incident took place on Tuesday. The domestic helper had taken the three dogs for a walk in Kennedy Town, and upon returning to the 23-storey building, was waiting for the elevator on the ground floor.
“As the lift doors opened, she brought the dogs inside. When the doors were closing, one of the dogs suddenly ran out,” the SCMP quoted a source.
The doors closed on the dog’s leash, causing the animal to be dragged upwards.
The incident came to light when a security guard noticed the horrifying scene and promptly alerted the police. The domestic helper, in the process of trying to save the dog, sustained hand injuries and was immediately rushed to hospital for medical treatment.
An investigation into the incident has been carried out, and authorities have determined that there was nothing suspicious about the dog’s tragic death.
