Kalaignar Centenary Library, a new identity of Madurai district was built by CM Stalin as a part of centenary birthday celebrations of former CM Karunanidhi.
CM Stalin termed Chennai as the administrative capital and Madurai as cultural capital of Tamil Nadu, owing to the reasons for Tamil language assemblies (Sangam assemblies) conducted during ancient times in Madurai. Our team reached VIPs and asked to share their views about the library.
Minister E V Velu said “…..the majestic grandeur of the library is the reflection of imagery of CM Stalin who aspires to implement social elements in a useful and magnificent manner which should awestruck the public. CM Stalin made the announcement for the construction of the library in the Legislative Assembly in January, 2022.”
“Former CM Karunanidhi built a library in the name of his mentor Annadurai in Chennai which was praised as incomparable to the libraries visited by Hillary Clinton, the wife of former US President Bill Clinton. Coming from the lineage of Annadurai and Karunanidhi, CM Stalin followed their path and built a library in the name of Karunanidhi who was a writer, story teller, poet and political king maker, which makes it simply difficult to distinguish Karunanidhi from books and knowledge.” said the Minister.
He also said “….CM Stalin could have built the library in Chennai itself but again because of his learnings from Anna and Kalaignar, he ensured that the library was fittingly placed in Madurai, a cultural hotspot for Tamil language right from the ancient times. Because of its location in Madurai, the beneficiaries come not just from Madurai but from the surrounding 12 districts. The initial allotted budget for the library stood at 134 crores which was changed later to accommodate the ideas given by CM Stalin for the betterment of the structure.”
Writer and speaker Nanjil Nadan shared his views about the library. He said “…the biggest social donation in the form of a library for Madurai as well as the surrounding areas was inaugurated by CM Stalin as a part of Kalaignar centenary celebrations. The library has modern facilities, an enormous list of books and an environment that is conducive for the studying purpose. The aspirants of competitive exams and researchers have a lot to gain from the library which increases the probability of aspirants clearing the exams and researchers widening their scope of research owing to the availability of a rare collection of books. The library serves as a ladder for elevating the position of the Tamil community in the global intellectual arena.”
VCK (Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi) party leader Thol. Thirumavalavan said “….Annadurai’s ideologies and personality was a reflection of all the books he read in Connemara public library. Ambedkar was praised as one of the most intellectual persons in the world because of his reading habit. These instances stand testimony to the fact that libraries and books are essential for human existence and for societal development. The number of libraries in a country is directly proportional to the interest in pursuit of education and knowledge. The library that is situated in Madurai will be beneficial for writers, creators, researchers and even students, for which I am appreciating CM Stalin.”
M. Rajendran, former Vice-Chancellor of Tamil University said “….The credit goes to CM Stalin for transforming Madurai from a busy, sleepless city to a city of education through the Kalaignar centenary library which is applauded as crown of Madurai.” Govi. Chezhian, DMK said “….similar to Anna centenary library in Chennai, Kalaignar centenary library as a gigantic grandeur was built by CM Stalin as a guidance to future generations of the country.”
Thamizhachi Thangapandian, MP said “…CM Stalin commemorating the centenary celebrations of Karunanidhi has built an ocean of knowledge in the form of a library in Karunanidhi’s name who lived his life excelling in both politics and literature. The library is a boon to the students of southern districts who want to quench their thirst for knowledge. For a person like Karunanidhi, who beautifully utilised his literary skills in politics there could not be any better way to pay tribute to him than naming the library after him”.
Writer and researcher Stalin Rajangam said “….Madurai was connected to literature and language development only in the ancient times but now the connection has been renewed by the establishment of a modern facilitated library in Madurai. To inculcate the habit of reading, the necessity is a conducive environment which is provided by the newly built library, so it is fitting to place the library in Madurai, which is a central part in southern Tamil Nadu. Heartfelt gratitude for CM Stalin for the library which will serve as a foundation for the growth of the Tamil community.”
Writer Sureshkumar Indrajith said, “….A library is a symbol of knowledge, a sign of culture and the savings of a country. The library in Madurai will elevate the book lovers, students and writers’ position in the society. The Kalaignar library has exclusive sections for children, aspirants of competitive exams, researchers etc. Madurai has deep roots with Tamil language since ancient times and such a city, now holds one of the largest libraries of all times.”
A library enlightens thousands of people in its vicinity!!!!
