KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer have been recalled to the India team for the Asia Cup as the selection panel led by Ajit Agarkar picked a full-strength squad for the tournament to be played in Pakistan and Sri Lanka from August 30. Apart from the duo, who are making a comeback after a long injury lay-off, the selectors have also included uncapped Tilak Varma in the 18-member squad to be captained by Rohit Sharma.
Among the big names to miss out include Yuzvendra Chahal, Sanju Samson – who has made it to the reserves – Washington Sundar and R Ashwin. Hardik Pandya has been named the vice-captain.
The return of Shreyas and Rahul will be a big boost to the Indian team that been struggling with options for the middle-order. Shreyas has been out injured since March and Rahul since May. Both the batsmen underwent surgeries and are still undergoing rehab at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.

The two were racing against time to stay fit as in case they failed to make the squad for the Asia Cup, the chances of making it to the World Cup squad looked slim. But with the BCCI medical team giving an all-clear for their inclusion, the selectors have named a full-strength squad.
The selectors have also included Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna, who too returned to the T20I side that is currently in Ireland. Apart from the two the other seam bowling options are Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur. The three all-rounders are Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel and Pandya.
With Kuldeep Yadav being the lead spinner, the selectors have chosen to ignore Chahal as three tweakers were deemed good enough.
