Apple’s foldable push for iPhones may not happen for another few years.
Apple has been cautious about entering the foldable segment and its focus for iPhones seem largely based on improving the software and features.
Apple’s big push in the foldable space could face a longer wait that you imagined. The company may postpone the launch of its first foldable iPhones. Apple seems to be in no rush to introduce a foldable phone, with a potential launch not expected until 2027. This news comes just days before the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2024. As per a report in TrendForce, the company is assessing component specifications and performance, particularly focusing on crease and reliability.
“We’re not just focused on getting a product out the door quickly,” the report cited an Apple spokesperson. “We’re committed to delivering an exceptional user experience, and that means taking the time to get it right. We’re confident that our foldable phone will be worth the wait.”
In recent years, numerous leaks have circulated alleging Apple’s intentions to enter the foldable phone market. Despite this, the tech giant remains the sole smartphone maker that has yet to unveil a foldable phone. Apple’s competitors like Samsung, Google and OnePlus have already released their foldable smartphones.
The report has come as a disappointment for Apple lovers who were eagerly waiting for the tech giant’s first foldable phone. As per 9to5Mac, Apple is taking its usual wait-to-see approach for the foldable phones, letting its rival companies like Samsung face all the problems first that go along with the new tech.
Recently, reports claimed that Apple is planning to launch their foldable MacBook and LG has already started working on the crease-less foldable panel that the rumoured MacBooks are likely to have.
The WWDC 2024 event is set to kick off on June 10 in California. During the event, Apple is expected to announce major upgrades to iOS and reveal their plans for generative AI. Several reports suggest that Apple is unlikely to unveil new gadgets at this year’s WWDC. Instead, rumours indicate that Apple will focus on unveiling its most advanced software, iOS 18. Speculations suggest that iOS 18 will introduce significant enhancements such as a new version of Siri, home-screen customization options, and various other features.
