Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi said that they need to improve in all departments of the game after their 89-run loss against Bangladesh at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, Pakistan.

Speaking after the match, Shahidi said the target could have been chased down but credited Bangladesh’s bowlers for giving them a good start in the second innings. Bangladesh bowled out Afghanistan for 245 runs in Lahore.
“I thought the target could be chased. The outfield was quick and the target could’ve been chased down, but we lost wickets. Their bowlers were good in the beginning, and our run rate was really low, that’s why we couldn’t win,” said Shahidi.
He went on to say that they need to improve in all departments of the game, insisting that their bowling and fielding weren’t good enough. Bangladesh scored 334 for 5 in the first innings on the back of centuries from Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Najmul Shanto.
“We need to improve in all the departments. Today our bowling was not good enough, neither was our fielding. Lahore is near our country, so the fans were waiting for this game. Hopefully they will come and support us again in the next game,” Shahidi added.
Batting first, Bangladesh put up 334 for 5 on the scoreboard with Mehdi Hasan scoring 112 runs and Shanto chipping in with 104 runs. In the second innings, Taskin Ahmed claimed four wickets while Soriful Islam picked three as Bangladesh bundled Afghanistan for 245 runs, winning the match by 89 runs.
This win over Afghanistan keeps Bangladesh’s hope of qualifying for the Super-4 stage alive, having lost their opening match against Sri Lanka earlier this week. All eyes will now be on Sri Lanka’s match against Afghanistan at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on September 5.
