City Councilwoman Inna Vernikov said Jay Varma chose to do drugs with sweaty friends of his while grandmothers died in cold hospital beds.
The former COVID-19 czar of New York City, Jay Verma, was fired from his role at SIGA Technologies after it was found he violated the Covid policies he made by having drug-fuelled sex parties during the pandemic.
Varma’s role as NYC COVID policymaker came into the limelight when he banned Brooklyn Nets’ Kyrie Irving from playing in the NBA tournament after the point guard refused to get vaccinated.

He also served as a senior health adviser under former Mayor Bill de Blasio.
He was fired from his position at SIGA Technologies after clips of him allegedly boasting about attending underground raves and hosting parties as New York City went under a strict lockdown surfaced.
“So we rented a hotel … we all took, like, you know, molly and like it was like eight or nine or us, eight to 10 of us were in a room and everybody had a blast because everybody was like so pent up,” the doctor, who was fired from the SIGA Technologies Board of Directors on Monday, said, describing his MDMA trip.
MDMA, also known as Ecstasy or Molly, is a psychoactive drug that enhances mood, empathy, and sensory perception.
Podcaster Steven Crowder released clips of Dr Varma’s candid discussions where he is also heard saying ‘I did all this deviant, like sexual stuff’ because he allegedly took advantage of his position at the time.
Dr. Varma recalled attending a large rave in June 2021, with hundreds of people present. When asked if he regretted participating, he said, “No, actually, I love being my authentic self.” A source later revealed that he had hosted another gathering in November 2020.
City Councilwoman Inna Vernikov criticised Dr. Varma’s actions, saying, “While grandmothers died alone in cold hospital beds, Dr. Varma was indulging in his fantasies with hundreds of sweaty strangers.”
Michael Kane from Teachers for Choice expressed his disgust, saying he found it appalling that Dr. Varma claimed drug-fueled group sex was necessary for him to be his “authentic self” after feeling “pent up” during COVID.
Despite the public backlash, a source close to Dr. Varma defended him, stating that he technically did not violate any mandates and that his comments were taken out of context.
Dr. Varma issued a statement acknowledging his actions, explaining, “In private conversations that were secretly recorded and manipulated, I spoke about events from four years ago. Between April 2020 and May 2021, I attended two private gatherings. I take responsibility for not exercising the best judgment during that time.”
