The daughter of a West Bengal woman who was beaten and paraded half-naked claimed her mother and aunt are in jail on suspicion of theft.
“My mother and aunt had gone to the market to sell some lemons on Tuesday (July 18). There is a sweet shop owner there who accused them of stealing lemons. After that, everyone caught and beat my mother and my aunt. They also disrobed them. It is injustice,” said the daughter of the victim.
She added that her mother and aunt are in jail in Malda.
“Right now my mother and aunt are in jail in Malda. We got information through a civic volunteer. We had also gone to meet them. We were told that they will be released on Monday,” added the daughter.
