On the morning of August 28, a tragic helicopter crash occurred in Pompano Beach, Florida. The Broward Sheriff’s Office Fire Rescue helicopter, an EC135 Eurocopter, experienced an in-flight fire and crashed into an apartment building at West Dixie Highway and NE 10th Street. It was en route to a medical emergency.
The incident resulted in the death of two individuals: BSFR Captain Terryson Jackson, a 19-year veteran of the agency, and a female resident of the apartment whose identity has not been disclosed. Four others were injured, including pilot Daron Roche and firefighter paramedic Mikael “Mike” Chaguaceda, who managed to escape the wreckage along with two civilians. All four are reported to be in fair condition.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are currently investigating the cause of the accident.
