In an earlier tweet, the indirect taxation body had informed that all invoices from suppliers registered under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and issued to consumers will qualify for this initiative. Winners of the monthly and quarterly draw stand a chance to receive cash rewards ranging from Rs 10,000 to an impressive Rs 1 crore.
For an invoice to be considered in the lucky draw, it must reflect a minimum purchase value of Rs 200. Each individual will have the opportunity to upload a maximum of 25 invoices per month, beginning in September. To facilitate this process, the ‘Mera Bill Mera Adhikar’ mobile application will be accessible on both IOS and Android platforms. The uploaded invoice should contain essential details such as the seller’s GSTIN, invoice number, amount paid, and tax amount.

In a bid to tackle GST evasion, the government has already mandated e-invoices for all Business-to-Business (B2B) transactions with an annual turnover surpassing Rs 5 crore. Now, a new scheme is being introduced to extend electronic invoice adoption to Business-to-Consumer (B2C) interactions, fostering transparency and participation.

This newly launched scheme will not only encourage the generation of electronic invoices at the B2C level but will also provide an opportunity for buyers to partake in a fortunate draw based on these invoices, an official said, as per a PTI report on August 20. The core intention, according to an official, is to motivate customers to demand valid invoices from sellers in their B2C transactions involving the purchase of goods or services.
